It provides both instruction for reporting data and understanding of the data elements collected by the system. It also serves as a reference for the coding of the data. The NFIRS (pronounced "EN-FURS") has been designed as a tool for fire departments to use in reporting and maintaining computerized records in a uniform manner of the fires and other incidents the fire department responds to NFIRS 5.0 is designed to be a modular, all incident reporting system.
